Busy, Busy, Busy.

So I have been away from my blog for a while - yes I have neglected it for some time - but I'm back now!

It's getting closer and closer to the end of the year and as I'm sure you all know that, that means racing season is just around the corner.

I have been attending the local Devonport Cup, hosted in Devonport on the North West Coast of Tasmania, for the past three years and last year was the first year I also attended the Hobart Cup and Launceston Cup. In-fact I was The Examiner's Face of the Launceston Cup for 2013 which was a truly amazing experience. 

In the past I have prominently attended the racing carnivals for the Fashions on the Field competitions. I have been lucky enough to win the millinery section at the Devonport Cup 2013 and was in the finals at the Hobart Cup Myer's Fashion on the Field competition. This racing season I will also be competing in the fashion competitions but am also going to take a bit more interest in the horses. I haven't really been involved with the horse side of the racing carnivals as I have never understood it, I love horses though and think it's time I actually do a bit of research and learn some lingo for the upcoming season.

Melbourne Shopping Purchases!

So I am back from Melbourne and I didn't do to much damage with my shopping - the majority of my money went on food and cute little cakes! I did however by an investment pair of Steve Madden platform pumps which I have been looking at for ages! I also bought a simple Colette Hayman gold chain which I am planning to use in an upcoming photo shoot. A few months back I won a Myer gift voucher for being a finalist in the Hobart Cup Myer's Fashions on the Field event and I finally got to spend it on a beautiful Gucci Guilty perfume gift set for myself :)

Packing For Melbourne

This Saturday I am popping over to Melbourne with two friends to go and see Pink! I am so excited, two nights in a hotel, three days spent shopping and a night watching Pink perform live is just what I need right now, or rather want. Above are a few things I am taking with me. My white furry jacket which I absolutely love, my favourite black pants, my favourite sunglasses at the moment, some gold jewellry, the best perfume in the world, my beautiful Betsey Johnson's and of course my camera. Excited!

New Inspiration

Inspiration works in funny ways. Sometimes I could be dying to find any form of inspiration and other times it could just be coming from all sorts of places. At the moment I am inspired by everything materialistic! It seems that today's society is too!

After reading The Great Gatsby some months ago, in anticipation for the new movie directed by Baz Luhrmann, I realised just how obsessed the modern world is with materialistic things. Lurhmann explains the relativity of the story behind The Great Gatsby quite easily:

"...no question that this book is achingly pointed at where we’re standing now. Where you see [many of the characters] you see prohibition and sudden new money. Where you see jazz you see hip hop. Most importantly, you see a blurring of the lines of morality on Wall Street. What is Gatsby? What is a gangster? Who’s good? Who’s bad? Once you realise that everyone’s living a little bit of a lie then everyone finds it easier to live a very big lie. And where does the lie start and where does the lie end? That’s really the very essence of it." (Luhrmann, 2013).

Researching ideas surrounding materialism is rather fun; you'd be surprised how many movies are out there that are inspired by societies drive to achieve a materialistic status.

I cannot wait until Sophia Coppola's The Bling Ring is open at my local cinema.

Millinery by Jayde Hayes Designs

For as long as I can remember I have always known I wanted to be a fashion designer, sure there were other things I were interested in doing but only as a form of income. I want to have a job that could be considered a hobby; a job I love. 

Only earlier this year have I really thought about what direction I want to take in the fashion industry, I have always wanted to do women's wear but have never put much thought into the area of I want to focus. I have often found myself designing every-day wear and cocktail/evening-wear and feel I will always design in these areas. I also discovered I have a fascination with blurring the lines between every-day wear and cocktail wear to create perhaps what was known as a 'Sunday's Best' look; remember when people used to dress up for Church or to go shopping for groceries? I'm talking gloves, hats, jewellery, handbag, heels and a beautiful dress or suit; all things one can associate with race-wear. 

After entering into the Devonport, Hobart, Launceston, and Burnie Cup Fashions on the Field events with my own designs I feel I have found my calling in the fashion industry. As a designer I want to specialise in custom made and standard sized race wear, modern but classic race wear.

I want to design/style the whole outfit! The garment/s, gloves, bag, jewellery, shoes and of course the hat!

Welcome to Jayde Hayes Designs!

This is my second post for my new blog Jayde Hayes Designs and let me tell you it is quite nerve racking. I love writing but have never seemed to be able to create a cohesive or even themed blog that one could consider credible. Yes, I have had some experience in the world of blogging a few years ago but it never got much attention; I didn't really have direction with it and it was often neglected. I am vowing right now that I will NOT neglect this blog!

So, I would like to formally introduce myself as Jayde Hayes. I am a fashion student and twenty years of age. I am from the North West Coast of Tasmania, specifically a little town called Burnie - not much happens here but I like it that way; I find one is much more creative with what little resources they have. I am presently completing my Diploma in Applied Fashion Design and Technology and am aspiring to be a future RMIT or Whitehouse fashion student.

Last year I decided to open a Facebook Page for my self-named label Jayde Hayes Designs where I sell my designs and talk about inspiring things. All my designs are available for purchasing; you can contact me on the page for more information.

I hope to use this blog to advertise my brand but will also be using it as fashion blog with loads of inspiring things to talk about!
