About

My name is Jayde Hayes, I have lived on the Northwest Coast of Tasmania for the past 20 years. I have been sewing for the past seven. I was taught to sew by my nan who still sees me sewing regularly as my swing room is in one of her spare bedrooms. I credit her for my interest and love of sewing and fashion design.

Grade seven saw me expand on what my nan had taught me; when asked to make something with a large piece of tie dyed fabric I went home, and with the help of my nan, came back the following week with a tie dyed dress with some beading appliqué around the neckline.

While carrying on with my study through to grade 12 I entered numerous times in the Apex Teenage Fashion Awards, which is an initiative ran for the youth of Australia to formally compete against each other to win one of four sections (Everyday Wear, Special Occasion/Formal, Society & Environment, and Fantasy) based on sewing skills and design. I placed first in the Tasmanian state finals for the Everyday Wear section twice in separate years and placed second in the same category on another occasion. I also won the Society & Environment section on one occasion. As a result of winning at state finals I was able to represent the state in Sydney on three separate occasions where I competed against students from other states. It was a real lifetime experience.

2012 saw me complete my Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design and Technology at the Burnie Polytechnic. I decided towards the end of the year to start my own Facebook Page and create hype around my designs and name. I plan am continuing with my study and plan to complete my Diploma in 2013.
